Corrie's Deirdre Barlow to be Given "A State Funeral in Soap Terms"

The news that actress and Corrie staple Anne Kirkbride had passed away last January shocked her fellow cast members and fans of the show to their core. The sixty-year-old had played soap favourite Deirdre Barlow for over 44 years on the cobbles, and had won fans over with that famous husky voice of hers and over-sized glasses.

Since her death, many of us have wondered how Coronation Street would choose to deal with her passing. The actress had taken a break from the soap before Christmas and the storyline at the moment has her abroad staying with a friend. The soap's writers have said they have given a lot of time to coming up with a fitting farewell to this icon of the soap, and it seems now they have finalised their plans...

Deirdre Barlow will also pass away on Corrie and will be mourned by the cast at what one insider described to The Sun as "the equivalent to a state funeral in soap terms". It's also thought that some old soap favourites will return to say their goodbyes.

Anne's husband David Beckett has apparently been consulted on how the soap will bid farewell to his wife and is said to be 'very happy' with how it will go.

It hasn't been said when the funeral will be aired yet, and don't know about you, but we will be stocking up on the boxes of tissues for when it does. Will you?
