Dr. McDreamy, Patrick Dempsey, to Star in 'Bridget Jones's Baby'

Good news for Renee Zellweger - the allure of the big screen as lured Patrick Dempsey away from Grey's Anatomy to star alongside herself and Colin Firth in the upcoming Bridget Jones's Baby.

The finer details regarding his role have yet to be released, but given Bridget got hitched to her Mr. Darcy in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason it's most likely he'll play the role usually inhabited by Hugh Grant (Daniel Cleaver) - i.e. the love rival.

46-year-old Zellweger and 54-year-old Colin Firth with both reprise their respective roles, last seen on cinema screens in 2004. According to Deadline, the storyline will be based on columns written by Helen Fielding, as opposed to her third novel, Mad About the Boy. Seemingly Ed Sheeran will also appear in the film (of course he will, he's everywhere), playing himself.

SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE STILL WATCHING GREY'S ANATOMY: Speaking of future roles after Derek McDreamy was killed off in April, Dempsey told Entertainment Weekly: "Will I be allowed to do something different? Is Derek so identifiable that I can't go on and be someone else? That will be the challenge. To see if people embrace me as someone else."

We'd embrace you in any guise, Patrick, come here to me and giz a hug!

Will you be banging down the door of your local cineplex to see Bridget Jones III, or do you think they should've left well alone after the first one...
