How to incorporate more self-care into your day

We are all aware of the importance of self-care.

However, with such busy lifestyles, it can be easy to forget to give ourselves a bit of love each day.

Thankfully, there are plenty of ways you can easily incorporate more self-care into your daily routine.

1. Get off the bus early

Exercising is one of the most effective ways to get you thinking in a more positive midframe, and it doesn't require a 10km run or an hour in the gym to feel the benefits.  Small changes, like getting off the bus a stop or two earlier or going for a 15-minute walk after work, can make a huge difference to your mental wellbeing.

2. Don’t scroll through social media in bed

This is easier said than done, we know; for most people, their phone is the first thing they pick up in the morning and the last thing they put down at night. For the next few weeks, make a conscious effort to not scroll through social media before you go to sleep. Instead, pick up a book and enjoy a more restful sleep, it will make all the difference.

3. Reflect on the positives in each day

It can be too easy to focus on the negatives in life, especially after a particularly stressful day. Each evening, try to pick at least one positive thing that happened or one thing that you think you did well; it can be anything from making a great cup of coffee to killing it at an important meeting.

4. Do pelvic floor exercises

Probably the easiest exercises to do but so easy to forget. Strengthening your pelvic floor muscles is important even if you haven’t given birth and has a whole host of benefits including better orgasms, need we say more?

5. Light a scented candle

Smell is one of the most powerful senses and the right candle scent can help you relax and relieve stress. Lavender, citrus and vanilla are all firm favourites here.

6. Drink more water

It cannot be said enough that water is amazing for every aspect of your health, including your emotional health. Your brain is made of around 73 percent of water, and drinking more of it helps you think, focus and stay alert. Treat yourself to a fancy water bottle and always keep it topped up, you will be surprised by how much you get through in a day.
