Our all-time favourite foundations for summer

With summer fast approaching, it's that time of year where a simple change of your foundation can brighten up your whole look.

During the cold winter months, a fuller coverage and a matte or demi-matte are usually what works well. But when the summer months hit, it's usually best to go a little bit lighter and more hydrating as the days get brighter and slightly warmer.

I've always been a fan of a full cover but when you have been looking after your skin through the winter and you manage to get a small bit of sun, with the right choice of foundation, your skin won't need all the coverage.

BB creams and tinted moisturisers are the lovely ways to cover up without masking your face entirely, but some people still prefer to wear foundation, which generally has better coverage and staying power. I think these two foundations are perfect for the summer months.

  • Nars Sheer Glow

My newfound favourite, it's lightweight but buildable and has a gorgeous satin finish. Great for oily or dry skin types, it doesn't cake or separate, it lasts all day long and, perhaps most importantly, it photographs well.

  • Urban Decay Nude

If you are looking for something lighter this one is slightly more of a tinted moisturiser, but there is a bit of buildability to it. It's a great option for warm climates and especially if you plan on being away in the summer.

You can add a full coverage powder to either build coverage or create more of a matte effect.

  • Bare Minerals 'Original' SPF 15 Mineral Foundation

We've recently rediscovered the Bare Minerals original mineral foundation and we're so glad we did. It's great for the gal who's on the run out the door and it has skincare benefits too. Although it looks like a powder, it feels like a cream, and it looks great on all skin types.
