Essence Trend Edition - Like An Unforgettable Kiss

On first glance, it looks like 'My First Makeup Kit', but bear with us. Essence products, with their bright colours and packaging usually tend to look a bit pre-teen but grown-up ladies (like us) are fans!

The brilliant thing about essence is that they churn out trendy makeup constantly so that you can try a little somethin' specific to the season without investing any big bucks. Their Like An Unforgettable Kiss collection, a limited edition collection out from January to mid-February, features spring-like pastel shades, and we found a couple of gems in the collection.

There are three eyeshadows, in mint, blue and purple. So far, so 'free gift with Twinkle'.

However, the mint shade is gorgeous. I applied it with an eyeshadow brush and thought that it would barely make an impact on my eyelid, but after a couple of swoops it sat steadfast and gave a lovely, greenish/bluish glow. I would wear this all on its own with just a lick of mascara.

The other surprise was the lip smoother (€2.49). Unlike the regular old gloss I thought it was, it's supposed to have a peeling effect to smooth out lines around your lips. Now this I don't quite get (because why would you put gloss around your lips?) but the main ingredient that performs this smoothing appears to be, ah,  grains of sugar.

I would not buy this lip stuff for the sole reason to smooth out lines but I would buy it as a very decent lip gloss. It's not sticky, it's thick and it feels soft. The only thing is you have to remove the little smothing out grains or else it looks like you didn't dab your mouth with a napkin after eating really messy toast.

We got our hands on the duo blush too (€4.09). It comes in a little heart shaped cardboard box which is very cute but I wouldn't put it in my makeup bag for people to see. Nice for a little girl's purse though. It's very, very subtle so would be a nice 'play' blusher or one for someone starting out in the cosmetics world.

Other products in the 'romantic' themed range that launches this month are lip sticks (€2.89), a blush brush (€3.49), nail polishes (€2.29) and a fragrance (€7.99).

Are you an essence gal? Have you bought any cheap and cheerful surprises over the years? Is there anything you've picked up from a limited edition collection that you would love to have been made a permanent fixture? Let's hear it in the comments!
