It’s Monday, which means one thing only: it’s Ask Beaut time! Every week we answer all your beauty dilemmas, concerns and needs.

Today, we’re talking about when bad things happen to blonde hair.

Julie asks:

Hi Aisling,

I have a bit of an urgent question for you! I was away on holidays having just got highlights, and the chlorine in the pool turned my hair green! I contacted my hairdresser but he is away until mid June. I just can’t have green hair until then. Help!

Hi Julie,

There is nothing worse than when hair goes wrong – I feel your pain. I believe chlorine is probably not the culprit but rather copper sulphate, which is used to reduce the algae in the pool. Regardless, having green hair is not the best of situations to be in, so worry not, it can be resolved.

Your best option is to use ketchup.

Apply it on dry hair, make sure to coat the whole hair well, and leave it on for about thirty minutes. Then wash it out with your usual shampoo and conditioner. The red in the ketchup will neutralise the green in your hair. If the green hue hasn’t fully gone after the first application, just repeat the process until it has. Hope that helps.

Do let me know how you get on,
