Beauty Look of the Week: Battle of the Hollywood Heavyweights

Celebrities to your corners, please.

This week, Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett (or their make up artists) have outdone themselves and I don't think I can choose between them. They must battle it out to claim the coveted-as-much-as-an-Oscar award.

To be fair, I can't see either of these women belting anyone around a boxing ring and screeching about who has the finer foundation finish but it's an idea to pitch to TV3 at some stage.

They were both in attendance at the "Carol" America Express Gala at the BFI London Film Festival.

But first we need to talk about Ms Blanchett's dress. It's so beautiful that if I look at it for too long, little midnight blue/black bunnies start bounding around my feet and I am overcome with a feeling of wanting to hug everyone in the office. And they don't like that (or so they tell me as they swat me away an electric cattle prod) so I've been rationing my viewing.

It's from Esteban Cortazar Spring 2016 collection and the fishtail skirt, cape sleeves and built in racer-back are what my dreams are made of.

But let's put aside the gown because I also love the make up looks on both Cate and Rooney at this event.

They both went for simple, relatively natural looks - no smoky eyes or graphic liners going on here.

Lightly defined eyes, soft berry lips and embracing-the-pale were the key features of their respective looks. And they were the perfect foil to show off their detailed dresses and fussier frocks.

Sometimes less is more. Except when it comes to the price tags on dresses. Then it would seem that more is more.

You can have a gander at the gallery from the night below and tell us who do you think should get the award. And if you are slightly overcome while looking a little closer at the back of Cate's dress, I am available for hugs.
