Old classic styles are the hairstyles inspiring us for winter. Hollywood waves are timeless and soft 'I did it myself' up-dos are rocking our world.

Here's a little collection of the hairstyles we are turning to for winter. These hair dos are weather withstanding, easy-ish to do and look simply gorgeous on almost anybody.

The Hollywood wave

Hollywood waves are a timeless classic that will work for anybody, no matter your hairstyle. Okay, maybe not if your hair is boy-short, but even the shortest of bobs can have a finger wave as a nod to the Hollywood wave. It's a hairstyle that will never look over the top because it's not too fussy. Any good hairstylist will be able to recreate this specific wave for you. Wear it with satin, wear it with sequins, wear it for the ultimate glamorous look.

Here's a Hollywood wave in a shorter hairstyle on Carole Lombard just to show you how short hairstyles can work the look.

The 'thrown up' upstyle

We also love an upstyle in winter. Girls are gonna be facing all sorts of weather situations on a night out. Ireland brings rain, sleet and snow and worst of all wind in winter. An upstyle can save you looking like you've been dragged through a ditch before you even reach your destination. We love soft up-styles that look like you just threw your hair up but it landed in a most flattering way.

Here's another upstyle incorporating a loose plait. The plait keeps it looking low-key and not too 'done'. This sort of textured hairstyle can withstand a bit of wind and rain because it's supposed to look loose and messy. Ideal for winter weather we reckon.

The fishtail plait

A fishtail braid looks scary at first but I promise it's not difficult. My advice is to watch one YouTube tutorial to teach yourself how to do this messy hairdo. It will get you through many an occasion where you need to look polished with little time or fuss. We love this for 'third-day hair'. Throw some dry shampoo in your roots and braid your hair to the side. Ta-da! Easy, peasy, weather-withstanding hairdo in a hurry.
