Tangerine Dream: Orange Lips For Summer From Maybelline, Revlon, ARTDECO, NYC

We weren't sure about tangerine tango as the colour of the year, but orange lips have proved to be a surprisingly wearable trend. Fun, vivacious and just a little bit edgy and exotic, there's a range of juicy shades and textures to suit every mood and skin tone.

Colour shy? Ease your way into the look with a fruity stain or gloss, more subtle than a fully pigmented pout. A brilliant place to start is with Maybelline's Colorsensational Popstick in Citrus Slice. It swatches clear at first but slick on a few deliciously scented layers - it smells like sweeties, yay! - for a pretty sheen with a hint of an orangey tint. It's quite hydrating, too, and it's €10.49.

A shade braver? Try this latest addition to NYC's Smooch Proof Lip Stain offerings, Orange On The Go. (See Forever Freesia here.) You get a wash of colour that's sheer but longlasting, and a subtle fruity scent - and at €3.99, it's the perfect way to experiment, without breaking the bank.

Another way to dip your toe in the trend is with Revlon's ColourBurst gloss in Sizzle, €11.18. Part of Gucci Westman's summer collection,  this is a smooth and creamy feeling gloss that's non sticky and easy to wear. It gives a shiny, sheer pop of bright orange colour that looks incredibly juicy on the lips.

A tip off from reader JLo on this post led me the Omni in Santry (D9), where I found Revlon's Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti  (top right, above) - the most popular shade in the UK and Ireland, this one is flying off the shelves. And I scored it for €7.45 as opposed to the usual €11.25 - delighted doesn't begin to cover it (thanks JLo!). This is a stunning creamy orange - see it in action here.

If you prefer a really pigmented punch of colour, then look no further than this little stunner from ARTDECO, €19.25. A bold and beautiful matte orange, Bon Bon is part of the newly launched Dita Von Teese Classics collection. Dita calls it a warm weather alternative to a classic red or pink pout, and I completely agree. Vibrant, creamy and opaque in just one swipe, this just divine - check out the rest of the range here.

With all of these, I like to pair 'em with a neutral eye, defined brow, peachy blush and contrasting pink nails. It's a look that's quite buoyant and uplifting - will you be giving it a whirl?
