How to pack your beauty products when flying

How to pack your beauty products when flying

Going on holidays is great, packing for your holiday is not so fun.

While we might live in the same pair of leggings all week long at home, we need outfits upon outfits when going away for a week. One thing that always causes confusion when packing is how to properly pack beauty products.

Here is a guide on how to do this to make packing a little bit easier for you:

Only pack essentials

I'm a beauty minimalist at the best of times but especially when on holidays in a hot country. I just don't enjoy spending hours on doing a full face of makeup only for it to melt off after an hour in the sun. So I only pack what is absolutely necessary and never bother with foundation.

This is my go-to list:

  • Cleanser
  • Moisturiser with SPF (tinted if you wish)
  • Compact powder
  • Concealer
  • Mascara
  • Eyeliner
  • Lip gloss
  • Shampoo/conditioner
  • Deodorant/perfume

Hand luggage

Only pack things you think you will need on the flight or in the airport in your hand luggage, this may include lip gloss, deodorant or moisturiser.

You first need to be aware of the amount of liquid you can have in your hand luggage, in Ireland this is generally 100ml. Liquids also need to be in a see-through bag for going security, for time-saving purposes I prefer to do this as I am packing.

Check in luggage

Anything that is bigger than 100ml needs to go in your check-in baggage. If a bottle doesn't say the amount of liquid inside (for example sometimes perfume doesn't), it is always better to put it in your check-in luggage. Sometimes you will get someone nice who will let you through but you might also get someone who makes you throw away your good perfume!

Compartmentalise

Things that you won't be needing on the flight are better to go into your hand luggage, this may include shampoo and conditioner as well as most of your make up.

It is best to put different liquids into small bags, for example, shampoo into one bag, makeup in another and sun cream in another. This helps lessen the damage to clothes and other beauty products if there are any breakages or spillages.

You should also always wrap glass bottles in a towel or item of clothing in your suitcase to protect it, expensive bottles can be easily broken as your bags get thrown around in transit!
