Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the latest trend to take over the fashion world, and depending on your viewpoint, it’s about as childish or as cute as it gets.

From the sublime to the ridiculous: Tom Ford AW13 at London Fashion Week; Little Mix; Kim Kardashian

Pop art and comic book culture has always had an influence on fashion – think Lichtenstein-esque images and accessories, polka dots and geometric prints - but right now it’s bigger than ever. Suddenly, zig zags, slogan tees and comic book motifs are all the rage.

Unless you have a fancy dress party to attend, I’d steer clear of head-to-toe superhero chic and go for a less literal take on the trend, with one of these comic inspired pieces.

ONE Kate Spade’s SS13 collection features gorgeous 1950’s colours and prints along with comic book graphics and slogans. This ‘daycation – gia’ makeup bag is one of the more affordable pieces at  €63.83.

TWO This Topshop Comic Pop Art Sweater is £30 on the website, which means it will probably be about €500 in stores here.

THREE Zara’s take on the comic book trend is this stylish and wearable monochrome tee, a snip at just €14.95.

FOUR  Give a nod to the trend with accessories like this Pow necklace, €5 from River Island.

FIVE  Pins to be proud of? Show ‘em off in these comic strip shorts from our very own Penneys – they’re €11 and they land next month. I’m thinking they’d make cute sleepwear, no?

SIX If you really want to make a pop art statement, these ASOS sweat pants certainly do just that. Spendy though at €45.45.

SEVEN  You’ll find loads of cute comic inspired pieces in New Look right  now, like this stripey slogan vest top, €14.99. Extra fashion points for the stripes.

EIGHT…or this body con printed midi dress, the perfect femme fatale ensemble – it’s €19.99

Will you be finding your comic side or is this one trend that’s more suited to the dressing-up box? I’m on the fence so I’d love to know your views – to the comments!
