The Girl with the Blue Eyeshadow: Scarlett Johansson causes commotion with gak makeup, dress, suberb hair

She can make most things look good: even that highly unflattering tea towel that she had to wear for the whole of The Girl With The Pearl Earring.  Could you or I do that?  Not likely.  But it just drew attention to the luscious ScarJo pout.

However the look she sported to the premier of We Bought A Zoo in New York last week may just have pushed her over the edge.  Sporting an eyeshadow shade last seen at an Eighties disco, this is a really difficult one to pull off.  Blonde hair and blue eyeshadow: it just doesn't work in this century and alerted by none other than Dante and the Lobster I had to investigate further.

"Horrendous"  shriek some sources "Fail of the YEAR!" exclaim others.  And at first glance the eyeshadow does look dreadful.   But it's only when you contrast the photo of blue eye shadow Scarlet, with the Oscars look she sported earlier this year that the unflatteringness of the shade smacks you on the nose.    Could she be any more beautiful in the Oscars shot? Gorgeous copper eyes  lit up her whole face and complemented her features fabulously.  Her artfully tousled hair was another triumph.

So we can clearly see that the gak blue washes her out and does nothing for her.  But  discussion of her look doesn't end there.  The Interweb is ALIVE with conflicting opinion and three elements of her style that night are causing comment

  1. The eyeshadow (obviously)
  2. The dress (gakarama in my opinion but you might disagree)
  3. The hair

No division of opinion over the entire Internet about this one.  Her hair was fab and this is a style she's worn before. This retro 40s updo, channeling the vintage vibe is a winner.  In summation: hair gorgeous

The dress is Dolce and Gabanna (Scarlett is the face of the brand) but to be honest it looks completely cheap and nasty - like something from the No Name sale.  I think its the little gap between the top and the skirt that just looks horrid.  In summation: dress gak.
