Bobbi Brown's 10 Step Beauty Masterclass - Steps 3 & 4

Yesterday I brought you part one of my Bobbi Brown 10-step series. Pre-makeup, concealer and foundation were addressed, and I shared with you Bobbi's tips and product recommendations for each.

powder

Today is the turn of Steps 3 and 4. Once you've masked all those shadows and blemishes, move on to Step 3, powder. Bobbi advises that you can also choose to powder your concealer separately too - and her Creamy Concealer Kit contains special stuff to do just that. The advantage is that it will help the product stay put all day. If that's all a bit too much hassle, then she suggests that you just use a light dusting of her Loose Powder - Pale Yellow suits most, she advises, or White is suitable for paler skins. "If skin feels dry, dust powder around the nose and forehead only", she recommends. Don't forget to powder the eyelids either, as this helps to remove oil and will prep them for shadow.

Step 3 is one of my favourites, blush. "Tap off excess powder blush from your blush brush before applying", she advises. The reason? "It's easier to build colour in a few light layers than to remove extra colour and start over". Sage advice. I know I've powdered over Aunt Sally cheeks a time or 20. "Use a wide brush", Bobbi instructs, "as this helps to prevent a 'stripe', and take the blush up into the hairline and blend it well". Powder is a good choice for most of us, but she suggests that you try her creamy Pot Rouge if you have dry skin. Colours? Bobbi is mad for pinks, and her bright, bright Peony is one of my favourite products.

I had a question: how should we be using bronzer, that oft-abused product? Dust very lightly on the spots that the sun hits on the face, was Bobbi's advice. You should be aiming for a very light tint of colour, as opposed to that full-on matte effect we see so much of. Dust the temples, nose, chin and top of the cheeks lightly with bronzing powder, and bob's yer uncle. Shimmer Brick should be used similarily sparingly. Single stripes can be used as shadows, but it's meant as a highlighter, and should be applied after blush, just to the top of the cheeks, and swept back into the hairline.

And of course, tomorrow is the turn of Steps 5 and 6 - so watch out for that!
