Christmas Party Make-Up: How Do You Do Yours?

One of my absolute favourite things about this time of year is all the going out that's to be done. Work Christmas lunches/dinners/parties, drinkies with friends, meet-ups with old friends, visits to de extended fambly - all that social butterflying gives your wardrobe a good workout, never mind your stomach and liver.

But when it comes to Christmas party make-up to accompany the costume changes throughout the season, what looks do you lean towards? Do you stick with the tried and trusted - make-up that you know suits you, that you wear regularly for nights out, and that you could put on almost with your eyes closed? Or do you view the party season as a chance to flex your creative make-up muscles, an opportunity to try out the new and exciting?

It's easy to get stuck in a make-up rut, but there are a few dead easy things you could try to incorporate into your look that aren't too terrifyingly OTT. If you usually just go for a slick of eyeliner, try a coloured version instead or go all out with a sexy smoky eye. Give false eyelashes a whirl (they're easier to put on than you'd think, and a good glue will keep them in place all night long.) Opt for a brighter blush than usual; sure you can always tone it down a bit if you're unsure about the finished result. Try highlighter. Try a new shade or finish - maybe subtle, dark glitter or on-trend tin-foil high-shine metallic? - of nail varnish.
