Essence Whoom! Boooom!!! is Pop Art-tastic + Swatch

essence

The cut-price competition for Mac's Wonder Woman collection lands on Essence counters for the months of March and April, ladies.

Whoom! Boooom!!! is bright, fun and pop art-inspired and best of all, a much cheaper antidote altogether.  There are 13 products in the range and you'll be able to bag bits for lips, eyes and nails. Nothing's more than €3.49 and there are a couple of interesting little things in there - lets take a look, shall we?

Above are two colour-changing glosses which apparently swear blind they'll be able to go from blue to pink or yellow to fuchsia (which is, er, pink), depending on your mood. Or your temperature or skin pH, more like ... still, at €2.49, they're cheap as chips and definitely a lot more affordable than a Smashbox O Gloss, eh?

This here's a cream eyeliner palette and it is the colossal price of €3.49. For shades plus a brush are what you'll get. Lets take a closer look at it, shall we?

essence pans of creme liner

Nice shades, all wearable but I'm slightly non-plussed by the putty coloured one on the left. It won't show up on me (unless I paint it on over a dark shadow) but this could look really interesting on a darker skintone. The casing is card, so these will dry out as some point I'd imagine but there is a magnetic closure which does keep the lid in place. The supplied brush is rubbish so forget it and use a regular one - the wee ones that come with Maybelline's gel liner would be perfect.

On the hand, these swatch very nicely indeed but note! I have not worn these on my lids yet so can't make any comment or claim on longevity, pay-off or budge-proofness.

Four eyes: four mono eyeshadows will be €1.99.

essence nails

Nails now - four shades here again and they'll be a similarly affordable €1.99 apiece.

Last up are another couple of nail goodies: on the left we've got a box of mini files, for €1.99. I have some of these in work and they're actually grand. They're teeny weeny (about three inches long) so handy for your bag and while of course they're no substitute for my Leighton Denney Glass file, I use my lives-on-my-keyboard one fairly often and like it just fine.

Here's how the files look in The Real Life - you get eight of them. Eight! One for you and your seven friends, so.

I'm totally tickled by the nail stickers too - a very respectable €1.29 nets you a sheet of pop art kabooms!, booms and symbols. Lay these over a contrasting creme shade and under a clear topcoat and you've got one fun mani.
