For The Love Of God: Osmosis Drinkable Sun Screen Latest Snake Oil To Hit Shelves

On the hottest day of the year so far you'll doubtless be overwhelmed with joy to hear about the newest sun protection regime out there.

At last an easy and safe way to protect skin from UVA and UVB rays.  A glug of of Osmosis Skincare’s UV Neutralizer Harmonized Water ($20, 100ml) will provide factor 30 protection for 3 hours.  No more ghost face (you know, when suncream makes you go white and greasy) and no more constant nagging of men and childers to put their blaaady suncream on - the product tastes exactly like water so just a few sips every couple of hours will keep your levels topped up.

Hurrah!

And how is this miracle achieved?

By making the water molecules just below the surface of your skin vibrate, emitting frequencies that cancel out the burn-causing frequencies of UVA and UVB radiation, says Ben Johnson, MD, general practitioner and founder of Osmosis Skincare.

You can read smooth talkin' Ben's full explanation here.

BUT HANG ON A MINUTE.

Does that not sound like the biggest steaming pile of horse dung? Well yes it does. Dermatologists around the world simultaneously spat out their tea when they read the press release: homeopathic remedies have been widely rubbished by science and there is NO WAY this could work.

Time Magazine attempted to find out how Osmosis is making these claims and found that they're not really bothering.   Look at this: they're just having a laugh.

We asked Johnson for the details on the company’s research, and well, there’s very little. No independent or clinical trials have been conducted on the product. Instead, “the UV Neutralizer was tested internally on roughly 50 people for extended stays in the sun before we launched it,” he says. As for what he says to dermatologists who don’t believe the hype, Johnson at least understands the skepticism, but urges them (and the public) to try it for themselves.

So there you go. There's no proof and no one has even really tried it out - but he still wants us to buy it. I can only hope to Holy God and all the angels in heaven that no one falls for this con and actually buys the stuff.  But somehow... I know they will.

I'm sticking to my tried and trusted suncreams. You know, the ones that actually work.
