Battle of the natural lipsticks: Bourjois v. Une

As a fan of "natural" skincare (plant-based formulations with minimal ingredients where possible suit my skin best), I was very interested when Bourjois launched the Une Natural Beauty range earlier this year. Obviously seeing the move towards natural origin ingredients as a good one, Bourjois also introduced a new lipstick in their own line - Sweet Kiss Naturel, with 100% natural ingredients. Curious as to how the Bourjois and Une lipsticks compared, I tried two of them out to see...

From the Une range I tried Lip-Toned Colour in L02 (€11.99) and from Bourjois it was Sweet Kiss Naturel in 04 Fuchsia Ardent (€11.99). The Une range is based on a natural colour palette to go along with its natural origin ethos, so the lipstick colours all seem to be more muted than the Bourjois offerings. L02 is a natural peachy-pink shade that gives my very pale lips a bit of colour and definition without screaming "Look at my lipstick!". It's a perfect daytime colour when you feel like a very natural look. The Sweet Kiss colour range, by comparison, includes some much brighter colours - Fuchsia Ardent is a gorgeous bright reddish pink that really brightens up my face. I wear this when I want a bit of colour in the daytime, patted on with a fingertip, but it's also perfect for a strong lip on a night out.

Both Bourjois and Une lipsticks are formulated with nourishing plant oils and butters, with shea butter and sweet almond oil giving them hydrating properties and a smooth finish. They glide on easily and the finish is very comfortable on the lips. In both products the ingredients are 100% from natural origin (and when I checked the ingredient lists for each, they look very similar, though not identical), but the Une lipstick goes one further with 21.8% of its ingredients also being certified organic.

And when it comes to packaging, both lipsticks score well too - I love the minimalist white packaging on the Une products, and the Bourjois lipstick comes in a transparent pale pink case with a pale pink aluminium tube inside that looks very pretty.

All in all, I was very impressed with both products. I've tried natural origin makeup in the past that always seemed to lack in either pigment or staying power, but these lipsticks compare well to any other lipstick in my collection. So if you prefer to stick to products with natural ingredients (and even if you aren't too bothered about that), these are both well worth trying out.
