Sneak Peek: Clarins Opalescence Spring Collection

Yes, it's December. And yes, it's only really just become acceptable to get excited about Christmas. I know. But look out the window at the utter disgusterousness that is our current weather.

I mean, yes, my hat was blown into the Liffey by a vindictive gale, but looking at Spring makeup means that I can pretend it didn't happen! The soft, muted colours that we can't wear in the greyish, bleached light of December are something to admire while we wait for the weather to stop trying to kill us.

If you too are getting bored of winter dullness and the dark sultry makeup that we tend to prefer during the winter season, then take a gander t the new Opalescence collection from Clarins. The whole collection is about bringing light to the face, and that's a cheering concept at this time of year.

There's more good news if you like makeup but find it a bit scary - this collection is designed for women who are in a rush in the morning, and prefer a five minute face. You could create a whole look with these products using just your fingers and the little applicator tools that come with the eyeshadow compacts.

It really is an easy way to a chic look, and the colour palette is absolutely perfect for any Spring brides-to-be. The collection is bright, it's natural, and it's full of the soft pink and coral tones that we all love so much after a prolonged period of more intense winter makeup.

For a radiant complexion, Clarins have included three different tones of Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base (€30). These come in champagne, rose and peach, and they all provide some colour correction as well as acting as a primer with plenty of grip. They are, as you'd hope, very light reflective, but not at all shiny.

For me, the absolute stand out product in the collection is the Multi-Blush (€22). It comes in four beautiful shades and has the most innovative finish. It looks like a sheer, natural flush on the cheeks, but can be built into a more opaque finish if that's what you prefer. I'm seriously impressed by how natural this blush looks on the cheeks - it gives the skin a beautiful translucence that doesn't look like makeup.

To light up the whole complexion and set makeup, you can apply the Opalescence Face and Blush Powder. This pretty powder comes in an opulent, sturdy compact and is really a blush, setting powder and bronzer. You can sweep a brush across all the colours to bring some warmth and light to your skin, or you can use the contour, blush or bronzing sections by themselves.

There are two individual eyeshadows in the collection, but the real attention-stealer is the Eye Quartet Mineral Palette (€41). Containing four shades that every bride should own in a range of light-reflective finishes, the palette is the perfect combination of grown up femininity and sophistication.

Also contained in the collection are the Instant Definition Mascara, which has  the beaut.ie seal of approval, and a collection of three pink and coral lipsticks (€21)  as well as two glosses (€18.50).
