Deborah Lippmann Collection: SO Hot Right Now

Deborah Lippmann is an American manicurist with more celebrity fans than you could shake a cuticle stick at and a line of pricey eponymous polishes that have a cult following among nail fans. Although Deborah Lippman products are difficult to get on the home sod they're not completely unobtainable: you can buy online from the House Of Fraser website for £16stg each and have them delivered.

Alternatively, you could always do what I did and travel the 3,000-odd miles to C.O. Bigelow in New York's West Village to pick them up.

Whichever's handiest, like.

Deborah Lippmann nail polishes are 3-free, meaning they contain no tolouene, formaldehyde, or dibutyl phthalate. The stars of the show are unquestionably the glitters, which contain a mix of large hexagonal paillettes and small(er) square pieces of glitter suspended in jelly-leaning creme or sheer bases. The brush handle is really comfortable to use.

There's no denying that they're absolutely beautiful, but a couple of issues with the shades I bought mean I'm not 100% in love with these polishes. For one thing, it takes four coats to hit bottle colour, which is an awful lot when you're dealing with an expensive bottle of liquid bling and like your polishes opaque; they're probably better suited to use as topcoats.

Oh, and wear time is just awful. I've yet to get more than a day out of them before they start coming off in great lumps at the tips. Ultimately quite disappointing, really!
