Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen are 30: Some of their best looks

In the early days of the Internet, I spent an inordinate amount of time looking at pictures of the Olsen Twins' hair. Back in the nineties / early 2000s, the twins had blonde, tousled bobs that I really wanted on my head.

Later, as their taste in style developed, mine developed with them; from Ashley's Clueless-esque two-pieces to Mary Kate's band tee and jeans of the New York Minute days, through to the Granbo (Granny/Hobo) chic period, to the elegant, refined and sometimes bonkers looks of today.

One of the best compliments I ever got was from a classmate at out Leaving Cert graduation who remarked that my twin and I looked just like the Olsens. She was commenting on a picture of us at our Communion that was on the memory board, but still.

Both Mary-Kate and Ashley's style divides opinion, but they don't give a sh*t. You never see them courting the attention of paps, they rarely give interviews or appear in magazines, unless it's for something classy like New York Magazine or Vogue and they're not active on social media. Mary Kate apparently had bowls of cigarettes perched all over the place at her wedding reception (last year she married Olivier Sarkozy, half-brother of Nicolas), which is just so Olsen.

The pair has risen from child stars to proper designers and businesswomen and if there was drama along the way (which there was) it wasn't splashed across the papers the way Lindsay Lohan's downward spiral was documented.

They've achieved so much in their twenties; it will be interesting to see what's in store for the next decade.
