The only three types of shoes to wear on a rainy day

The only three types of shoes to wear on a rainy day

Today is not a suede boots day, but of course, that's what I pulled on.

If I had any clue where my wellies are, I would have dug them out this morning, but it's Monday, and I was already five minutes behind schedule. Tonight will be spent cleaning my boots with a toothbrush.

Wellies are the obvious rainy weather footwear, but sometimes they just don't go with your outfit, and other times, you don't want to wear them because... they're wellies.

The solution is shoes that won't leak in too much water so you can stomp in a few puddles, but ones that will still look good in social situations too.

  • Brogues / Oxfords

Clarks Hamble Oak Ladies Brogues (from Littlewoods) €75

If you don't have a jaunty pair of brogues or Oxford-style shoes in your shoe collection, add to it now. While they came back as a trend a couple of years ago, they're going nowhere. Good news for flats fans and lovers of dry feet.

  • Patent Boots

River Island Blush pink patent look ankle boot €35

Patent high heeled boots were a fleeting trend last season, but if you nabbed a pair, give yourself a hug. These wellies for grown-ups will serve you right on a day when you have to play a bit of dress-up, but it's pouring out.

  • Chelsea Boots

Dr Martens Kensington Flora Burgundy Chelsea Boots (from ASOS €153.33)

I chose these Dr Martens because, with their trademark rubber soles, Docs are pretty much rain proof. You could make a far flightier investment than a pair of trusty Docs. Chelsea boots in general, are fairly good rain shoes.
