Who Cares About the Movie? This Red Carpet was Brill

Meryl Streep is one of the best, that cannot be denied. One of the best actresses, one of the best singers (ok, that's debatable) but she's one of our favourite women who lives in the public eye.

We have to say however, that her new movie, Ricki And The Flash, does not interest us in the slightest. Lookit, Mamma Mia was a hee-uge hit but enough of the screeching, Meryl, let's see some hard core acting. We'll probably still watch it though.

Moving on to the red carpet, because that's what we're really here to discuss. Now it's not the most glamorous of affairs (there's a time and a place for gowns and sparkles and August isn't one of them) but there are stellar examples of great personal style that's easy to emulate.

Take Meryl herself.

She's a monochrome marvel! Black and white is a fail-safe combination but there's something about Meryl's look that saves it from being boring. That something? Her attitude. Those shoes would instantly and easily dress up jeans too.

If the actress above looks familiar it could be because she's Meryl's daughter, Mamie Gummer, who also happens to co-star in the flick. We just love this elegant ensemble. The peplum style showed signs of waning but paired with the sheer skirt and strappy sandals the entire look is timeless.

This one may divide opinion but we're going there. We are totally into Jennifer Esposito's ensemble. Wide pants are all in for the season ahead (although if you're wearing them in Ireland you might want to bring along bicycle clips with you to save the ends from puddles) and the oversized shirt is just cool. It's the most unexpected item we've coveted in a long while.

Also, we have Laverne Cox's dress. Just sayin'
