The end of summer is finally upon us and it's time to turn our attention to Autumn Winter trends
We asked the fabulous Holly from the Peter Mark salon on Grafton street to show us four standout trends from AW fashion weeks. Behold your hairspiration for the darker months ahead.
The Individual You
This is more of a movement than a trend as fashion embraces the individual this season. At many of the shows this year, models were allowed to style their own hair and were offered numerous looks to suit their own hair type and texture. And all this helped to cement a sense of individuality on the runways.
Embracing the natural movement in your hair (or even air-drying your hair) can seem extremely daunting, and something that many of us only really do when on holiday.
The key here is to use the right product and this is where your stylist's expertise can help. Look for something that gives you some control or that can combat humidity such as Redken One United All In One (€22.30) that will condition your hair and help control frizz. It also has anti-static properties that will aid in manageability. Then you can ease yourself into the trend by try semi styling your hair rather than your normal full routine.
The Sophisticated Side
Another breakout trend at fashion weeks across the globe was the deep side parting as seen at Proenza Schouler, Saint Laurent, Celine and Jason Wu. More of a trend within the other trends, this look works pretty well on all styles as well as face shapes. It was a welcome change from the recent centre parted boho looks and 70’s inspired flicks.
Seasons of messy, centre-parted waves made the often considered masculine side parting feel super fresh and sophisticated when it appeared this season, especially with a little product to create a sleek wet-look finish.
So however you’re wearing your hair - textured, straight, wavy or up like Zoe’s - make sure you go deep and to the side.

The Modern Classic
Finger waves were a surprise trend that showcased across all four fashion weeks for the likes of Dries Van Noten to Marc Jacobs, Jenny Packham and Stella McCartney. There were a number of modern variations from wet look to super textured. It's clear that the classic looks finger wave is experiencing a revival.
This look is normally reserved for editorial high fashion shoots or red carpet events. But it has started to trend mainly due to the natural texture trend which allows for a less high polished looked.
If this is your first time at finger waving, try doing a small section at the front of your boho blow dry or a little hint of a wav. Then put the rest of your hair up in a casual ponytail. Using a product like Kérastase Couture Spray à Porter Toulsed effect spray (€23.00) will help you control and fix in your waves as you pin the style into shape. Use your ghd curve classic curl (€135.00) tong first to create the curl needed to start your waving.
In this look, Holly left the natural texture of Zoe’s hair and added a touch of wave around the temple and cheekbone area to highlight Zoe’s amazing eyes and then left the rest of her hair full of texture.
Shine and Sparkle this AW
Hair accessories were another welcome trend this AW as seen on the runways of Alexander McQueen, Erdem, Rodarte and Dolce & Gabbana.
We asked Holly to show us some simple ways to introduce this trend into your look.
Accessorizing is such a cheap trend to do as you more than likely own more sparkly bits than you care to mention. You can easily transform an outfit simply by glamming up your hair.
From brooches to metal flowers, the key here is excess.
