Club DIY: How to Make Your Own Body Scrub

Club DIY: How to Make Your Own Body Scrub

We all love a good scrub but like anything else that's of any value or importance in the bathroom, sometimes when you need them, they're not there. So what do we do when we've had a spray tan, it's a week in and we're starting to look like scaly snakes?

We all know it's something that regular shower gel won't get rid of but fear not, if you're on a tight budget or you've just run out and you need a quick fix, there are scrubs that you can quickly and easily make yourself.

I got this idea from using the Victoria's Secret body scrubs. Their consistency is so thick and gritty that it pulls virtually every remnant of tan from your skin and a couple of years ago they were like gold dust! We fortunately have a Victoria's Secret in Dublin Airport now but it's a relatively new addition.

Anyway, back in the day, nothing else worked for me when it came to removing tan and when I came to the last few squeezes out of one of my bottles, I thought the grittiness looked and felt very much like sugar. So, I thought to myself, I'm going to make my own scrub.

I mixed baby oil with plain sugar, got the consistency right and I was good to go! When you're making your own at-home scrub you can choose your own desired levels of consistency and grittiness. I like mine to feel like sandpaper so therefore, equal amounts of sugar and oil. If you would prefer a lighter more gentle scrub, just add a small amount of sugar to some oil.

Today I have used Johnson's Baby Oil which is only €3.75 at your local Boots. It locks in up to 10 times more moisture for perfect, baby soft skin. It's also been clinically tested with dermatologists and is preservative free.

As I said though, you can use any oil you like. Another good option is the Green Angel Argan Body Oil which I love for it's triple action; it hydrates, regenerates and is anti-oxidising. Argan oil has become the beauty industry’s new anti-aging miracle ingredient and the Green Angel oil is enriched with Geranium and Neroli essential oils. It combines a base of light weight Grapeseed and Argan oils which ensure rapid absorption securing vital skin moisture and it also contains Omega 6 and Omega 9 and the powerful antioxident Vitamin E.

I want to start exploring more at-home beauty remedies but in the meantime, have you guys any recommendations or suggestions you could make about at-home body treatments?
