Maybelline Takes NYFW
By Beaut.ie  | Feb 15, 2015

Are you sitting comfortably? And fashionably? Maybelline have been bringing us all the highlights from New York Fashion Week. We've had a peek at the flawless skin of the models on Marissa Webb's runway and we've picked up some expert tips on creating strong, graphic liner looks like those seen on the models at the SUNO show.

And today we're going behind the scenes at no less than four more shows. Yes, we'll be breaking down the looks chosen by the Maybelline New York artists for these designers and showing you exactly how you can recreate these looks at home.

So grab your coffee/champagne and let's catch up on the hottest shows and looks from NYFW.

  • Chris Gelinas

Chris Gelinas contrasts pioneering techniques with the classic conventions of luxury and femininity. He won the 2013 MADE for Peroni Young Designer Award and his SS14 collection caught the attention of both Women's Wear Daily and Style.com.

He has worked at several big name fashion houses including Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Balenciaga and most recently he served as first assistant to Oliver Theyskens at Theory.

This is Maybelline New York's second season sponsoring Chris Gelinas.

  • Mara Hoffman

Mara Hoffman got her big break when Sex and the City's costume designer Patricia Field complimented her outfit while passing Hoffman on the street in New York City. Field bought all of Hoffman's samples which successfully sold in her store, House of Field, and Hoffman gained a strong following.

Her line launched in 2000 and has evolved from hand-dyed silhouettes to her current collection which focuses on original silk prints. And in 2008 she launched her very first swimsuit line, a favourite with many celebrities like Blake Lively, Halle Berry, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna and Katy Perry.

This will be the sixth season that Maybelline New York sponsors Mara Hoffman.

  • Sandy Liang

Sandy Liang's label is all about quirky, easy and stylish designs. Her previous collection showed a fuzzy clutch with an ice cream cone, cotton-candy coloured coats and super-wide leg pants that still retained a sartorial edge.

Her Spring 2015 Collection was her first time showing in NYFW and featured staples such as burgundy leather jackets and light wash jeans with crystal embellishments.

  • Isa Arfen

Isa Arfen is the London-based womenswear label behind Serafina Sama, a Central Saint Martins School of Art & Design alum. The brand launched in 2011 after she released a small collection of traditional yet modern, eclectic summer dresses.

These dresses were inspired by retro glamour and Sama says her collections are for 'a real woman dressing for her real life and really enjoying it'. Her Spring 2015 collection was no different offering zip front A line skirts, sleeveless silk blouses and a raw linen cape.

This will be the first season that Maybelline New York sponsors Isa Arfen.

And in terms of makeup looks, one of the common cosmetic threads across these shows was the focus on muted metallic eyes and soft pops of colour on the lips.

And we've chosen three products to help you recreate these runway looks.

  • Color Tattoo (€7.49)

These Color Tattoo 24hr cream gel shadows feel light on the lid and easily smooth on for vibrant colour that doesn't fade.

There are 12 shades in the range but we've chosen Eternal Gold (left above) and On and On Bronze (right above) to replicate the light metallic shades that we saw on the runway.

  • Eraser Eye Concealer (€11.99)

We want to keep the focus on the muted metallic shades of the eyelid so some concealer around the eye blurs imperfections and erases dark circles. This Eraser Eye Concealer is the next generation of concealer that cares for and covers up any imperfections. The formula is enriched Goji Berry which hydrates the skin, while the coloured pigments hide dark circles and fine lines.

There are two shades in the range, nude and light. It comes with a small sponge applicator and a top tip is to pat dry with your fingertip to warm up the product to help it blend flawlessly.

  • Color Sensational Lipstick Rebel Bouquet (€9.99)

Rebel Bouquet brings pastels to life, as the super saturated pigments bring a kick of colour to the lip in pinks, reds and mauves. There are ten shades to choose from and the addition of honey nectar means it feels creamy, luxurious and smooth to apply.

This is a perfect look for day time that can easily be amped up to night time glamour with an extra wash of Color Tattoo and some definition around the eyes.

And don’t forget that Maybelline New York will be taking us back stage at NYFW with them every day next week. And we'd love to know which of these looks and designers are your favourites!
