The leather jacket is an essential part of the quintessential capsule wardrobe, but it can be problematic

If you own a leather jacket, you own a staple wardrobe piece that will never go out of fashion. At the same time, you own something that a lot of people have a problem with. As we become more environmentally and ethically aware, the desire for leather and fur and other goods made with just a little help from a would-be living creature wanes. The genuine leather tag is proof of quality, but it's also a sign that an animal may have been hurt in the making of that item.

It's a good thing, then, that faux leather doesn't look as hideous as it once did. People love leather because it's long-wearing - and luxurious. Cheap pleather is the opposite. I bought a faux leather jacket in Zara a couple of years ago, and it has served me very well. Zara has a reputation for good faux leather, but this cheap as chips one shows how well they've got it tapped.

Faux Leather Biker Jacket €39.95

It's all in the details with this jacket: the waist strap and the metal buttons on the lapels. It's an amazing price for a piece that will give you your faux leather jacket fix before buying something that's a little more authentic looking. Although the whole point of buying faux is to not buy the real thing - sing your faux-ness loud and proud!

It's from Zara's TRF line, which is aimed at a younger demographic so the prices tend to be that bit cheaper. The line isn't 'young', though; I'm in my 30s and have loads of pieces from it.

I'm also adding these new-in TRF pieces to my shopping cart. Hey, they're cheap, and it's pay week. And January has been a trés long month.
