Laced up! The Best Lace Pieces for Under €50

Lace is such a feminine fabric and it's not just for doilies on the side table in your nana's house. Over the last season or two, lace has become a an all-year-round fabric. Dresses for the spring summer wedding and high neck black tops for autumn winter.

There's also something rather historical about lace; there's plenty of it in Phillipa Gregory's novels if you have ever read them (think Fifty Shades for the Tudors). It's also a red carpet favourite, with some of the best pieces being worn by Mina Suvari, Sophia Vergara and our very own style star Vogue Williams.

And then theres are the wedding dresses. K-Mid went for Alexander McQueen, while newlywed Nicky Hilton chose a $50,000 dollar gown by Valentino. Now we may not all have those kind of budgets, so I've chosen some great pieces under €50 to start your laced up collection.

The trick to lace is to team it with other fabrics to keep your look balanced. Now dresses are a bit of an exception to this obviously, but if you are wearing a lace dress, then avoid lace on your shoes and opt for something related to it like satin.

I love lace and denim, so for a night out try a coloured top (see below from Dorothy Perkins) with jeans, and a pair of peep toe shoes. It's vintage versus contemporary.

Cream lace is one of my favourite colour and texture combinations. It's summery but with a black pencil skirt in the winter, it can look incredibly chic for the office, so don't be afraid to invest in some of these tops to wear over the rest of the year.

If you still have an occasion to come this summer, try a lace skirt in a light colour rather than a dress. One outfit idea I have been seeing a lot of on Pinterest is mixing a lace skirt with a cashmere sweater of the same colour. Penneys will be stocking some amazing cashmere jumpers towards the autumn!

So when it comes to lace, is the jury out? Or how to you wear yours?
