Disappointing Products: Eight I Don't Rate

disappointing products

It might have escaped your notice but I try a lot of products. I'm lucky that brands see fit to send some my way, but I direct a lot of my own eurobucks towards feeding my habit, too. Inevitably along with the greatest hits and hallelujah moments have been times I've wept bitter, bitter tears of rage and disappointment (hey, we take our beauty very seriously round these parts!).

Now I should point out that just because these didn't work for me, doesn't mean they won't work for somebody else. But on me, these products were a total bust.

1. Bliss Lemon & Sage Body Butter Light

As a lover of lemony scents this found it easy to lure me in. And it's not a horrible product by any means: it does the job, it smells ok, it isn't greasy. The problem is simple: it doesn't look, feel or smell anywhere near as good as the €31.50 pricetag led me to believe. For that money I want luxe. I want FANCY! This is not that.

2. Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Endless Purple

I have a bunch of these and in general they are brilliant products - but turns out Endless Purple is the exception that proves the rule. It's so seductive, with its pretty purpley ways, but it applies quite sheer and patchy. Much as it pains me, when I'm done here it's going straight into the bin.

3. Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser oil free

Ok, first, if you are one of the many, many fans of this product (XGirl amongst them) then please, don't find out where I live and kill me. Or even terrorise me a little. I've tried with this, I honestly have, but I just don't get the hype! The coverage is way too sheer for me -  plus, I'm pretty sure it broke me out. AND THIS COST ME €48! I'm still enraged.

 Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion

4 & 5 Sephora Eye Make Up Remover and Face Cleansing brush

I picked these up in Barcelona earlier this year for about a fiver apiece. And all I can say is, OW! The remover stings and the brush scratches, despite feeling super soft against my hand. I guess I'm not as hard faced as my ex-boyfriend said, after all. And just like that gobshite, I'm dumping these sharpish!

6. Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion

Confusingly described as a powder-to-liquid formula, I found this tricky to apply and impossible to get the hang of. It sort of plops out of the bottle in little clumps and when rubbed into my roots, just makes 'em sticky and messed up. For me, OSiS Dust It by Schwarzkopf Professional or plain ol' Batiste both do a WAY better job.

7 & 8 Wrinkle Filler Pens

These Nip & Fab and Clarins products are just the latest in a long line of wrinkle filling pens that I have bought, convinced that they'd eradicate the pronounced line under each of my eyes. Not one of them has. I hereby officially give up. Plus, the Clarins one is billed as 'anti-rides' - and none of us wants that, now, do we?!
