Dr Hauschka Almond Body Moisturiser Review

the new dr hauschka body moisturising line

I've used Dr Hauschka skincare products on and off over the years and have tried samples of a few of the body moisturisers, but I think this was my first time trying the Almond body moisturiser, €24. Designed to provide "intensive, nurturing care for dry, sensitive skin", this sounded like exactly what my skin needs right now. Super-dry and itchy, even old reliables like Kiehl's Creme de Corps weren't providing quite enough hydration and so to be honest I didn't hold out much hope that Dr Hauschka would do any better.

Formulated with Sweet Almond, Jojoba, Avocado and Olive oils, as well as Shea Butter to nourish and hydrate the skin, Almond body moisturiser also features extracts of St. John's Wort and anthyllis to smooth and strengthen sensitive skin and quince and marsh mallow to balance the skin's moisture content and leave it soft.

That all sounded good, but the lotion itself was quite thin and liquid in formulation when I pumped it out, so I wasn't sure how moisturising it would be. It spreads easily on the skin, however, and sinks in well (I find some of the more natural skincare lines can be less pleasing to use in that you have to work very hard to get them to absorb into the skin).

My skin was left feeling soft and immediately a lot less itchy than it had been and it still felt much better the following day. In fact, although the lotion absorbed very well, I could feel a coating on my skin that really lasted, although it wasn't oily or greasy. It just made my skin feel hydrated and protected and I liked that the feeling lasted until my next shower.

The fragrance from Almond Body Moisturiser isn't an "edible" type of almond fragrance. It's slightly bitter and has an almond blossom note to it to begin with, which dries down to the almond fruit fragrance. It's pleasant, though probably not my favourite scent, but it isn't overpowering and doesn't linger very much, so I don't find it off-putting.

If I had one slight complaint about Dr Hauschka's body moisturisers, it would be the packaging. The lotions come in glass bottles, which does make for an attractive presentation, but isn't as practical to use in a steamy bathroom when your hands are already slippery from applying the lotion. Although the bottle has a pump top, I find I need to pick the bottle up and tilt it to aim into my palm or onto my arm or leg as the pump applicator is fairly shallow. And as I don't want shattered glass and body lotion all over my bathroom floor, I need to be very careful handling the bottle.

Other than that little detail, I've been very impressed with Almond Body Moisturiser and will probably be trying out some of the other Dr Hauschka offerings (the moisturisers are also available in Rose, Quince, Lemon Lemongrass and Lavender Sandalwood versions, three of which are new to the range) in the future.
