Once upon a time, lip product categories were very defined. You had your lipsticks, which usually provided a block of colour, and you had your lip glosses which were much more casual and gave a shiny, sheer finish.
These days those lines are very blurred as lipsticks get more glossy and glosses get more, eh, lipsticky.
These Paint Wash Liquid lip colours from Laura Mercier are a perfect example. They look like glosses but are really liquid lipsticks and by jeebus they're well pigmented. Available in nine shades, they're long wearing and give a creamy, demi matte finish.
There’s Vermillion Red, Fuchsia Mauve, Orchid Pink, Petal Pink, Nude Rose, Coral Reef, and pictured here are Golden Peach, Rosewood, Red Brick.
I was really surprised at how pigmented these are, and how smoothly they go on. These swatches are just one swipe of each. The texture is a little like Bourjois’ Rouge Edition Velvet but I found it smoother and less drying.
The applicator is quite handy too - the slim tip works for outlining the lips while the flat fills the lips easily. They’re €30, at Space NK.
