NEW! Clarins Launch Lady Like Collection for AW14. And We've a VERY Special 'Get the Look' Tutorial

There has been a lot of talk recently about Autumn and leaves around here. I'm just waiting to hear myself utter the words evening, in and drawing, and then I'll know I've turned into my mother.

But while we wait for that to happen, I am going to show you something magnifique!

Clarins are set to launch their AW14 collection, 'Lady Like', in mid August. And it looks to comprise of many Nice Things. We'll be trialling and reviewing the products ourselves over the coming weeks, but today I want to share something a little bit special with you.

For one day alone, we have a new member on Team Beaut.ie - none other than Claude Defresne himself! Now, our love affair with Claude has been on the go for sometime but there is good reason for this.

Aside from the handsomeness and accent, his skill with a makeup brush makes me think that he possesses supernatural powers. He is Clarins' International Make-Up Artist and Trainer, and the man responsible for designing the brand’s make up trends and products.

And today he has written a 'Get the Look' piece for us, showing exactly how to achieve what he calls the ‘upside down smokey look’, using products from the new AW14 'Lady Like' Collection (and for those of us perhaps a little confused by that term, it's the look sported by the model in the ad for this campaign, and you can see her blended out peeper perfection at the top of this article).

Over to the fabulous Claude!

'The ‘upside down smokey look’ is a very versatile look.  It can be adapted to suit any individual. Application is quick and simple, even for the novice make-up artist among us.

The key to achieving this look is the application of a lighter shade to the upper eyelid in contact with the crease, then working a darker shade into the area below the eyelid.

  • STEP ONE

Never forget to add a single drop of Double Serum in each foundation application.  This will address the five vital needs of our skin throughout the day :

  • Oxygenation
  • Hydration
  • Protection
  • Nutrition
  • Regeneration

The key to beauty is a radiant and luminous look.  I have applied ‘True Radiance Foundation SPF 15’ which promotes maximum radiance while protecting the skin against the harmful effects of sun and pollution. During application, ensure the foundation is blended correctly around the forehead and jawline area so there is no obvious line. Set your foundation with loose powder immediately after application.

  • STEP TWO

To highlight the cheek area I have used Blush Prodige #07 Tawny Pink (€33), start from the ear and blend inwards leading inward to the most prominent part of the cheek bone.

Don’t overdo, a light sweep will go a long way !

  • STEP THREE

Before you begin on the eye area you should address the eyebrows. Perfectly structured eyebrows will frame your face and give fantastic definition to your eyes. Choose a brow shade to match the colour of your hair, brushing along the brow line. Finish with the transparent wax to set the look and tame unruly eyebrows (Kit Sourcils ‘Pro’, €41).

Before application of eyeshadow, a good tip is to apply Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base (€25), this will add luninosity, even the colour of the eye and most importantly open the eye so it looks bright, radiant and youthful.  This eye base will intensify the colour of your eyeshadow too and help it last hour after hour.

  • STEP FOUR

Apply Ombre Matt #2 Nude Pink (€22) all over the eyelid up to the brow; the bamboo powder ingredient will absorb any excess moisture which will help achieve a long lasting look.

The soft focus pigment helps to intensify the colour while reducing the appearance of fine lines.
