We had oily, flat lifeless hair - and here's how we fixed it

There are a number of reasons your hair could be looking very flat and lifeless. If this is your problem, we have come up with a solution to bring it back to life.

One of the main reasons for hair looking greasy and lifeless is due to product build up in your hair. When you use products like shampoo and conditioner, serums, dry shampoo and hairspray, over time they leave residues that build up in your hair.

We have put together a step by step guide to strip all the product build up from your hair and put some bounce back into it.

  • Give your hair a good wash with a clarifying shampoo.

This will strip your hair of all the product residue that has built up over time. It's not recommended to use these shampoos regularly because they generally contain more acid than most shampoos, and continued use could dry out your hair and strip it of all its colour if your hair is dyed. Regular brushing will distribute natural oils from the root through the length keeping your hair shiny and healthy. However, too much brushing will over stimulate oil production so you need to find a healthy balance. Use a great hair brush that won't damage your hair, like the Denman paddle brush €11.45.denman dull lifeless hair

  • Try to leave a longer time between washes

If you wash your hair every day, try washing it every second day. If you're already doing that, try to stretch it out an extra day between washes. Too much washing strips your hair of its natural oils and your scalp over compensates and produces excess oil.

  • Buy a good moisturising shampoo and conditioner.

We recommend Moroccan Oil moisture shampoo and conditioner. This is a rich hair product and will work wonders for shine and flyaway split ends but you will probably need to alternate and use a lighter shampoo every couple of weeks.
