What is a 'Skin Spatula' and How Do You Use It?

Have you ever heard the term 'Skin Spatula' and been utterly confused by it? If yes, then here's everything you need to know about the latest skincare gadget.

What is a skin spatula?

A skin spatula is a device which uses ultrasonic vibrations to clean and exfoliate the skin.

It does this by loosening and then removing any excess oil, dirt and impurities found in your pores.

Apparently, it can also be used to help apply products to the skin such as serums, creams and oils.

Does it work?

Yes, skin spatula's are somewhat effective at clearing out your pores, however, if used incorrectly they can damage the skin.

Many dermatologists have said that if a person applies too much pressure or force themselves when using a skin spatula it "could lead to bruising and capillary damage" as well as redness and swelling.

Shari Marchbein, a dermatologist based in New York, told Allure in July 2018 that skin spatulas "will not minimize pore size, and the pore will fill back up immediately with sebum because that is what pores do".

Meaning that this device will provide only temporary relief for those with clogged pores.

So perhaps it's best to combine this with other methods of skin exfoliation which helps remove dead skin cells and unclog pores.

Where to buy?

If you're still interested in purchasing a skin spatula and seeing for yourself how effective it is, you can purchase them from Littlewoods Ireland and Amazon.

I personally don't think this skincare gadget is worth investing in though.

If clogged pores are a big issue for you then you are probably better off going to a qualified dermatologist who will provide you with a safe solution.
