Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year: Are You on Team Glasses?

I've been wearing glasses since I was six, thanks to issues with acute migraine and a pretty severe astigmatism. At the age of six, back in the eighties, the styles of glasses on offer to kids wasn't exactly the definition of chic.

Yes, my first pair were of the milk bottle variety, encased in a metal frame in sky blue. What was not the most stylish accessory I ever had thankfully fixed my eyes and corrected my vision when I was a child and prevented any further complications with migraine.

Now, I wear glasses for reading, and, you know what: I rather like them. I'm not an ideal candidate for laser eye surgery, nor do I want to have it. I like my specs; all nine pairs of them. They are a coveted accessory and celebs are loving them too, and I witnessed this for myself on Tuesday night, after the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year in London.

Specsavers have long pioneered glasses as an accessory as well as a necessity, and with a competition like SWOTY, we can celebrate glasses wearers across the nation; including the Irish winner, Jenny Keane who I had the pleasure of chatting to in London. Although she didn't win the overall prize, Jenny is the perfect ambassador for we specs-lovers. She embraces the shape and colour to suit her face and complement her style. And her lovely twin sister Amy, is exactly the same!

We sat amongst the celeb glasses wearers of the UK, including our host Gok Wan, Girl's Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh, Vanessa White from The Saturdays, Amy Childs of TOWIE, and Dawn O'Porter the celebrated author and wife of our own Chris O'Dowd.
