Our top three summer trends from Coachella

Our top three summer trends from Coachella

We all know at this stage that Coachella is more about the fashion than the music, right? Celebs galore descend on Coachella Valley in California for one of the chicest festivals on Earth over two weekends in April, the first of which has just past.

If you follow any of the big names on Instagram like Kendall Jenner, Vanessa Hudgens or the Victoria Secret models, then you will know what the festival trends emerging will look like. This festival, more than any other, sets the bar for our summer trends, so we've decided to pick out our top three that you can get into your holiday wardrobe! All we need is the SoCal sun...

  • Going au natural

Typically, the colours you would see at a festival would be fairly bright. However, this year the shades have gone all calm on us.

This trend is being set by my models of the moment Kendall Jenner and Chanel Iman, who both opted for cream based attires. Kendall's dress also taps the cutout look which will be a big swimwear trend this year too.

If you want to make this colour palette work for you, work it in as a "binding colour". Caramel, honey and camel shades work great to mesh together brighter colours like lemon, dusky blue and orange.

  • The short of it

Summer shorts are always a go-to look no matter what, but the texture and colours changed with Coachella this year.

Model Alessandra Ambrosio opted for tan suede cut-offs to match her perfect festival outfit, as did actresses Lea Michele and Emma Roberts. The denim cut-off is always a festival front runner; this year, try adding in the seventies look too, with a collared t-shirt or suede fringed jacket.

  • See through

If we look at red carpets over the last year, transparency is the big trend to emerge, so we are so not surprised to see a little more than we bargained for in the sun drenched fields of Coachella. Paris Hilton paves the way for more of this trend in her black see-through summer dress.

Getting this look right isn't exactly easy, but we can compromise. Wearing a bandeau top under a sheer or lace top or tunic is an easy way to try the trend. Style this with some skinny jeans and you might as well be at Coachella.
