Complexion in need of a pick me up? Then you'll love these quick and easy tips for clearer skin every day.
We all have days when we look at our skin and sigh. It's totally normal, whether you're prone to the odd spot, blackheads, uneven tone and texture or dullness. And while makeup will always be waiting in the the wings to help (yay!) it's better to treat these problems at the source rather than covering them up. So if you're in need of a complexion pick me up, here are our three tips for clearer, brighter skin every day.
Exfoliate regularly to brighten dull skin
We all know this one right? But it's easy to forget to exfoliate when you have a hectic schedule. Which often translates into trying to make up for it by scrubbing the living daylights out of your skin every two weeks or so when it's looking particularly rubbish. At least that's what I used to always do until I got told off by a skin clinician friend of mine (morto).
Little and often is the way forward for clearer skin when exfoliating. Use very gentle, circular motions and a light touch to massage your product into skin. If you do that three times a week it will help improve skin circulation as well as remove dead skin. Voila, brighter skin!
Beat the break out with salicylic acid
Salicylic acid is like kryptonite for spots and blemishes. The reason why it works so well to give clearer skin is down to its molecular composition which makes it more oil soluble. This means it can properly penetrate into the pores of the skin to break down blackheads and clear pores. Salicylic acid is also anti-inflammatory and helps to reduce the production of sebum which can cause blackheads and breakouts in the first place.
If you're looking for a good salicylic product to start with, we love Super Facialist Salicylic Acid Purifying Cleansing Wash by Una Brennan (€10.99) and also La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+ treatment (€17.99).
Clear congestion with a sonic cleansing brush
Congestion is so annoying, isn't it? Are they actual spots threatening to come up at any given moment? Or will they be there forever, lurking underneath the surface of the skin? Regardless, there is one way we've found to give congestion the ol' heave ho, and that is by switching to a sonic cleansing brush. There are plenty out there to choose from in varying price brackets but our weapon of choice is the Clinique Sonic Purifying Cleansing Brush (€89) which we love, love, love.
