Laura's Fav Products of 2014

2014 is now a thing of the past, but its cosmetic legacy will hang around until the new Spring Summer collections start rolling in. Last year saw some timeless offerings which should still be setting makeup lovers' hearts adither for 2015.

And here are some of my favourite releases of 2014:

  • Nars Audacious Lipsticks

Just head into your nearest Nars counter to be visually accosted by the loveliness. I like inclusion in makeup ranges, and this range contains something for every mood, skin colour and inclination. Containing several shade options in every standard lip colour, as well as some interesting new shades in nude and red hues, this collection is to die for.

Add to that the stellar pigment and the deliciously soft formula, and you have a lipstick that deserves a lifelong place in your makeup bag! At €30, these are certainly not cheap, but you'll wear these timeless colours again and again.

DIORSKIN_STAR_Fluid_Foundation_1409656463

  •  Diorskin Star Foundation

I bought this with my Christmas vouchers, so I technically only discovered it in early 2015. The moment I applied this, I chastised myself for not having made the purchase sooner. Diorskin Star is my foundation of 2014 for a reason. Boasting medium to high coverage, you can build this for evening makeup or apply it lightly for daytime.

The shade range could certainly be more inclusive of darker skin tones, but it does cater comfortably to classic Irish skin, and despite the demi-matte/satin finish, this base creates a glow that just lights skin up. I've had so many compliments on my skin when wearing this, and that's always the ultimate sign of good foundation! At €48, this is again very pricey, but for something I will cherish and wear until I've emptied the bottle, I think it's worth it!

NARS-Radiant-Creamy-Concealer-group-shot

  • Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

This concealer has been essential to my makeup bag since its release. And yes, it was released in 2013, not 2014, but I'm making an exception for it! It is, without exception, the best concealer I have ever used. The shade range is astoundingly good and the product manages to give that 'radiantly good skin' illusion without highlighting blemishes.

Since Nars concealer and foundation shades veer on the yellow side, Radiant Creamy Concealer disguises  undereye circles as effectively as it makes red blemishes disappear. This may not exactly be a 2014 release, but nothing that came on the market last year was a patch on this, so it keeps the top spot with consummate ease as far as I'm concerned! It sets atop blemishes (even hot, angry ones) to disguise them perfectly, and at €25, it may not be cheap, but anything that covers those angry, hormonal chin welts will always be on my 'must buy' list. I've repurchased this no fewer than six times since its release. That says it all, really.

  • Clarins Ombre Matte Eyeshadows

Another practical everyday product that you'll use to death, Clarins Ombre Matte Shadows combine three of the best elements a product can have - they're easy to apply, come in incredibly wearable colours, and are just beautiful.

These are perfect as stand alone shadows or as a base for powder shadows, and the matte finish is both long-wearing and flattering to everyone. I just love these. Again, at €22, they're on the pricier end of the scale, but I don't mind investing (when I can) for something I will use every day and then wrestle the dregs from the pot before going out and repurchasing.
