Review: The sparkly, shimmery, fabulous new makeup collection from Sleek

Sleek has released a new collection just in time for the sparkliest time of year

It’s official: summer has left the building. The days are shorter, the skies darker and our ol’ friend drizzle has come out in full force. Winter, is most definitely here. So what better way to brighten up our moods than with a new make-up collection that is designed to have us glittering and shimmering our way into the party season?

Sleek are a firm favourite of ours here in the Beaut offices. The range has some great eye palettes, high pigment, moisturising lip colours and gorgeous highlighters among other things. Perhaps, more importantly, they’re all at affordable prices too.

Their newest offering for AW16 is the Rockstars Collection. Inspired by the glitz and glam of being on stage, the new products feature lots of shimmer, glitter and everything else a magpie eye could possibly desire. And the best bit? Everything is under a tenner so you can get your sparkle on and still have some change to put towards an eggnog latte.

Sleek VIP Lip Colours in Scandalous and Superstar

First up are the jewel toned, VIP lip colours (€7.49) Scandalous and Superstar, a ruby red and amethyst purple respectively. Both have an iridescent pearl fleck to them which gives a metallic finish (you can see Superstar in action here). I’m a sucker for detail and the shape of the bullet really caught my eye as it’s been carved to look faceted, like a precious stone. So pretty!

Moving on to eyes. This is where the sparkle factor gets upped a bit more. The Diamonds in the Rough palette has six shades, (four are powder, two cream) in tones of rose gold, pink and champagne.

Again, the packaging continues the jewelled theme with a beautiful design that is reminiscent of one of the NARS limited editions from last season.

From left to right we have: Solitaire, Trillion, Princess, Asscher, Marquise and Radiant. All are wearable on their own or blended together. I can’t help thinking, though; they’d all be perfect for jazzing up a classic smoky eye. Sort of like the way a pair of killer heels or a sparkly clutch can lift a classic LBD look.

sleek-strobing-souffle

Last but by no means least there are the strobing soufflés, available in a translucent gold and pink (€8.99). The soufflé texture is really interesting, as it’s not a cream, liquid or mousse, but something in between. The finish you get is a light reflective strobe with added glitter. Think Christmas bauble and you’re on the right path.

All in all, the Rockstars Collection doesn’t break new ground, but what it does do is offer up a capsule collection of glittering goodies that are hard to resist, especially if you’ve got the magpie eye. So, who cares about gloomy skies and dark days? It's time for a bit of sparkle I say!
