RMK: a love story

I like to keep an eye out for those of you who comment with passion about a subject and ask you to write me a little more about your object of desire, especially if it's something I'm not too familiar with myself. So naturally I wanted to hear more when x-girl confessed her passion for RMK.

"RMK is a makeup and skincare line created by Japanese makeup artist Rumiko. The Japanese origins of the line gives it a fresh and youthful appeal, but the high quality formulations and easy-to-use textures make this a brand suitable for all ages.

  • On the makeup side of the line, I have fallen in love with a large proportion of their base products.
Their Makeup Base is the only primer I’ve tried that I can actually see makes a difference – foundation glides on over it and stays put all day.
I also use both their Liquid and Creamy Foundations – these are so easy to apply and blend and give the most natural flawless finish that lasts really well. They are available in a wide range of shades, both neutral and yellow-toned.
If you want a basic translucent pressed powder, No Colour Powder gets rid of shine without leaving your skin looking powdery
for a more glowy finish, try the pressed powder which comes in a pale pink and cream for a natural glow, or a light bronze for more warmth.
  • In terms of colour products, their range of blush shades is hard to beat. Ingenious Cheeks gives a real “glow from within” (shade 30 – Soft Pink is a Spring/Summer favourite of mine), Holographic Cheeks are easy to use shimmery shades, Jelly Cheek Colour is a cool gel formula and Mix Colours gives you 3 shades in one palette, which you can mix together as you like for a customized approach.
  • Their eye shadow range is just as varied, with matte, shimmery and metallic shades in a range of colours (Metallic Powder Eyes in shade 06 – Holographic Green Purple is a beautifully unique shade, and not as scary as the name suggests!), lovely palettes if you prefer to have your colour combinations created for you, and a really fab cream eye shadow in a tube that you apply with a wand (try 05 – Olive Green, particularly if you have blue eyes).
  • For lips there are a number of different glosses and lipsticks – I haven’t tried too many of these, but love the Mix Colours, which has 3 coordinating shades of gloss in one tube, which combine together when you apply it.
  • If you like to mix it up with your nail colour, their shades range from bright yellow to black, with plenty of your more standard shades in between – I particularly love number 86 - a bright cherry-tomato shade - for summertime.
  • Their brushes are expensive, but worth it in my opinion. I have a powder brush and blush blush that I love to bits, and the great thing is they come in their own reusable plastic slipcases, so are totally portable!
  • Their new Spring/Summer collection this year has a number of limited edition double-use products – double-ended lip colour/lipgloss tubes, powder eye shadow applicators with eye pencils on the other end, and blush/powder palettes. Prices aren’t exactly bargain-basement, but if you’re used to shopping from places like the Brown Thomas beauty department, you won’t be shocked.

The counter in House of Fraser is always very generous with samples of skincare and foundation products. I’ve tried a few of the skincare products, but find them a bit too strong for my dry, sensitive skin. I did sample one of those cool/slightly scary sheet masks you apply over your face to let the gel penetrate. I liked that and will probably try it again. And their Herb Mists are beautifully scented water sprays you can use to refresh your skin or set your makeup."

Wow! Thank you so much x-girl - I think you might have given all the makeup addicts on Beaut.ie a whole new product line to find they can't live without!
