How to dress when you're suffering from yuletide sickness

When you've caught that bug or had one too many eggnogs the night before, you need a go-to outfit and a can-do attitude

I, like 99% of the population, am sick. I have a blocked nose that turns runny for about 20 minutes every so often and then blocks again. I have a cough that only starts at night, and I feel sick because of the lack of sleep it causes. But other than that, I'm fine. *cue fixed smile and glassy eyes*

Like many sick people, I don't have the option to stay at home all day watching Christmas movies and drinking tea. I WISH! But the next best thing is to go out and about being as comfortable as possible - without sacrificing style.

Yesterday, I dropped into H&M on my way home because they had yet another sale on. While I was steam-out-of-my ears annoyed that a jumper dress I bought two weeks ago for €30 is now €12, I was very pleased to see a similar dress sans sparkle on sale from €40 to €15.

Here I am (on the right) in the severely discounted gúna

It's deep purply-blue - quite the flattering hue, don't you know - knee length, big sleeved and oh, so cosy. I'm wearing it right now. Alas, it is not on the H&M online store so I can't show you the exact one, but take my word for it, it's comfy. I feel like I'm wearing a hug. And the sleeves hide all my snotsy tissues. Win. Win. Win.

Whether you're properly sick or it's self-inflicted thanks to the silly season, you'll want a comfy uniform on hand that works for lounging at home or (in some cases) for work. Let's lampshade it, baby. Huge jumper, skinny pants and boots - high if you have somewhere to be.

My oversized jumper is of the knit variety, but if I were to do it all over again (which I probably will tonight), I'd get a sweatshirt. It's the Kourtney Kardashian way.

This one is from H&M, too. It's €39.99 and looks great styled with more formal trousers (€49.99).

It doesn't have to be long if you don't want it to be. But oversized is the way to go. And maybe red, for the time of year that's in it. How's about this jumper from Penneys (€20)?

I'm lucky enough to be able to wear leggings to work. But I don't wear just any leggings. I wear leggings that look like other types of trousers so that people won't ask if they're leggings. Like these guys from iClothing (€39.99).

The key is in the styling. A big jumper and skinny pants isn't revolutionary. But brush your hair, put on some lipstick and a great pair of earrings and you're ready to face the Christmas visitors, no matter how you're feeling.

I hope lampshading never goes away.
