Five perfect pieces to try out this season's prettiest trend

The ruffle ain't just for little girls' dresses anymore; nope, it's going all glam. Diane Kruger is leading the celeb pack in a seafoam coloured Valentino dress which is giving my fashion filled heart a lot of joy. You don't have to don a full gown to get the look either; it's made its way into some mainstream pieces too, and even swimwear.

If you would like to embrace your inner Diane Kruger, then the high street has taken on the trend for summer in knee-skimming midi dresses and high necklines. These are pretty, but also work with a festival edge. Just add some ankle boots.

Ruffled swimwear is channelling the pin up look with one shouldered swimsuits that have an elegant layer to make it more than just a regular swimming togs. The only reservation I have is that with an E cup I feel I'll add too much volume to an area that's big enough already.

The high neck for tops is one of the easiest ways to get the ruffle into your wardrobe. It's a nice tribute to the Victorian trend too, and a good way to dress in lighter fabrics for this transitional time of year. Just ask Sharon Horgan.

The main thing about the ruffle is that you need it to act like an accessory, so it doesn't need a lot of styling; let the detail do the hard work for you. If you want to try it out, look at tops first which tend to be a bit cheaper and see if you like it. Then you can have a think about wearing a little ruffle here and there for a summer occasion.
